As a trainer and RSO at my club, my first reaction is usually “Who is this asshole?” If I see good stance and a proper aggressive grip, not an asshole.

Sadly, though, 60% of the time it some Fudd trying to one hand it showing off. What will chill my ass to the bone is if I see a guy setting up his wife or daughter with it and she’s obviously uncomfortable.

The big noise is obnoxious, inexperienced shooters can hurt themselves and noodle-arming a cannon absolutely can result in an un-controlled double. Our indoor range has a sizable chunk of concrete dug out of a beam from just such an occasion.

The good news is its easy to not be an asshole! Don’t screw around, give everyone a heads up. You wouldn’t think it would be ok to set up a .50 cal Barrett at the 50yr range with giving a warning, would you?

It’s the unusual that draws attention. You don’t want to hear unexpected shit at the gun range. Auto-guys get the same thing… and guys will usually wander by and give you a heads-up. “Were going full auto on 7 and 8.”

There’s always a lull in the fire, just a simple “Big-Bore going hot.” Is enough. Hell you might just make some new friends, everyone likes to see something big and exciting… they just don’t want thier guts rearranged without warning.
