Do you know what a ‘shark attack’ is?
In US armed forces basic training, this is where multiple instructors will get right up close with a recruit, and start shouting conflicting instructions in their face, at high volume.
The purpose is to train them to deal with high stress situations.
The assumption behind that purpose is that a civilian entering the armed forces as a trainee will not already know how to deal with this sort of stress. That civilians do not know how to handle high stress situations, and therefore this type of training is a requirement in order to innoculate them.
So.
We have a situation where a civilian is being given conflicting instructions – to move her vehicle, and/or to step out of the vehicle. She is being shouted at by armed and masked men.
This is a high stress situation, no?
And, as we’ve established, not one where we can expect civilians to react entirely calmly and rationally.
So what is crazy here is not that she is ignoring an armed employee (Federal, not State, by the way). It is that there is an expectation that any sort of sensible action would take place under those circumstances. And that not acting entirely rationally and in line with the primary one of multiple conflicting demands is grounds for an on-the-spot execution.
Do you knoww DHS policy clearly states you DO NOT SHOOT THE DRIVER OF A FLEEING VEHICLE unless they just committed a murder or they have a car full of explosives, or something.
If you’re in front of a vehicle that starts coming toward you, you step out of the way. Those are their rules.
You don’t step out of the way then shoot the driver in the head three times.
If you do that, you just created a 2,000 pound uncontrolled missile.
