What will you do if J.D. Vance wins the 2028 presidential election?

There’s something off putting about Vance. I struggle to put my finger on it exactly.

Mind that I’m a conservative Republican. In theory he should be my guy.

I just suspect… he’s not really competent. Like a living embodiment of the Peter Principle.

Ask yourself – what has he done in his career?

He was in the Marines, but was a photographer. He never saw action.

He went to Yale Law School, yet I don’t believe he ever litigated a case as an attorney. He was in-house counsel for Peter Thiel’s venture capital firm.

He was in the Senate, but I’m not aware of any important bills he helped coauthor.

My point is – what has he ever done with his career besides get promoted and build a resume?

I’ve met people like this in my work in the corporate world, and they never impress me. They’re usually smart and well spoken. They know how to not mess things up. They know how to impress the boss navigate office politics.

But they never actually do anything. They don’t accomplish something of meaning.

Say what you will about Ron DeSantis, but he got a lot of things done as governor of Florida. And he’ll tell you all about it.

Or take Vivek Ramaswamy, who never held office. He founded companies. They made and sold products. He invested in companies as a VC himself.

JD Vance hasn’t done any of that.

What he DID do was overcome his chaotic childhood with a drug addicted mother. He gets full credit for that.

Then he wrote a best selling memoir about that. Which turned into a successful Netflix movie.

And all of that made him an attractive pick for Trump, who wanted a fresh face from the Rust Belt for his campaign and subsequent administration.

But I don’t think any of that qualifies him for the presidency.

People have been talking about him as president since he was sworn in as VP. But can we at least see what kind of VP he makes first?

Let’s see if he does anything first. And I’m sorry to say it, but most VPs don’t do much.

One last thought – I get it that most Quorans lean left. That’s totally fine. I hope that any comments to this post will be in the vein of what I said, and not “Ihatehimbecausehesarepublican”.

I would hope that accomplishment and demonstrated leadership skill is something we look for in all of our elected representatives, regardless of political party.

I saw something online recently that pointed out that, with the expected swing towards younger candidates in the next presidential election, it’s entirely possible that there will not be a president from my generation (Gen. X). Biden was of the “Silent Generation,” and Trump, Obama, and Bush are all Boomers. Vance is a Millennial.

Anyway, it’s just a little interesting trivia, if it happens.

I’ll also be thankful that another election is over, so I will (hopefully) get a reprieve from political ads for a few months, before they start again for the 2030 midterms.

Then I’ll go on with my life like I always do. Nothing that happens in Washington is really life-altering for me. I’m told this is because of my “privilege.” The same people telling me that also imply that I should feel guilty about being unaffected by most political things. It’s not so much that I’m unaffected as I am calm and flexible.

I simply cannot see any realistic scenario wherein I’d be overly emotional, positively or negatively, over a presidential election. There will be no cheering or crying from me. Just an acknowledgment that it happened, then continuing as normal.
