I can only talk from my perspective. Now, my wife and I have been together for 14 years. Before I came into the picture, my wife was married to an American that she met in San Francisco while travelling there as a young tourist.
She got pregnant and they returned to Denmark, as they deemed it was a better place to raise a child. In Denmark, they got another daughter, so I’m the proud stepdad of two young beautiful women (they’re now 18 and 23). We also have two boys aged 9 and 10.
Anyway, we have always wanted to visit the girls’ grandparents that live in Southern California. They’ve visited us multiple times, but we’ve never gotten around to visit them. They’re getting old, so time is kind of running out on us.
But, neither me wife or me wants to step foot on American soil with all the horror stories we’ve heard. And for my part, I would be terrified to walk out in the open, since I am half Greenlandic and half danish (mother from Greenland, dad from Denmark).
For some odd reason, that genetic mix has left me looking like a Mexican or someone from South America, and I’ve seen the footage of people looking like me getting snatched up on the streets in vans by armed men in masks and deported to maximum security prisons in South America without any due process whatsoever.
I’m sure some sort of diplomatic crisis would ensue if that ever were to happen to me, but I’m also pretty sure that Donald Trump wouldn’t give a flying F about Denmark cutting relations with the US as a consequence of me being kept there indefinitely. He has already shown he doesn’t care about the US / Denmark relations, even though Denmark has probably been one of the strongest allies of the US in the past.
So no. I will not set my foot in The United States as long as that fascist sits at the helm. And I am fully aware that this Quora post will be used against me if I ever tried (can’t say anything bad about Dear Leader), but as I said, that is a scenario that will not happen. It’s a shame.
I would’ve loved to visit the girls’ grandparents before they got too old, but the chance of that happening seems to get smaller the more Trump tightens his grip on US politics.
And from where I’m sitting, it seems that other politicians in the US are willing to let Trump tighten his grip so much that there’s a good chance that democracy dies and the US we used to know 15 years ago dies with it.
I’m American but I live in Australia.
My wife and I used to spend 6 months of the year in the US every year. We bought a truck and a travel trailer which we used to keep in storage in Ft Worth.

On each trip we would spend $30,00 to $40,000 on parks, food, fuel, clothes and other things.
In 2023, when it became apparent that trump WAS going to run again and that the election would, at best be close, we decided to sell our rig.
With all that is known about trump, the fact that the election could even be close, completely crushed my faith in my fellow Americans. The country has been taken over by a sickness called Trump Delusion Syndrome.
My wife is Australian. I will be applying for Australian citizenship. The US is not, and never was the country I was taught to believe it was. A large number of the people are hate filled, racist, morons. Even after trump is gone, those people and their descendants will still be there and a lot of them are armed to the teeth.
I will never return to the country of my birth.
