How do USA aircraft carriers keep going into the wind during operations? Do they travel hundreds of miles in one direction then come back?

Instead of submarines having to return to port to refuel and switch crews, why don’t submarines dock with an aircraft carrier at sea so that crews can be swapped, and the sub can be resupplied without ever having to go to land?
