Is Steven Seagal really a martial arts expert?

Let’s start out by saying that Steven Seagal is extremely cocky, extremely overweight and has been proven to tell lies. I won’t go into all of them, but one is that he met Bruce Lee when he was in Japan (Steven Seagal moved to japan in 1974 and Bruce Lee died a year earlier), SS has also claimed to be a part of the CIA or the US military which is completely false.

I think that Steven Seagal could have had a respectable reputation if he would have just stuck to the truth. He is a legit 7th degree black belt in Aikido (which is about the highest rank a foreigner can achieve) from the 1970’s. He was also the first Westerner to open an Aikido dojo in Japan AND have Japanese students (he was that good at Aikido).

Now a lot of people clown on Aikido, but I can pretty much guarantee his style of Aikido works. After the explosion of martial arts because of Bruce Lee, all the neophytes and meatheads (in Japan and the US) would challenge any martial arts master to see if they had legitimate skill.

If he ever got his as$ handed to him, he wouldn’t be running around constantly saying how bad-ass he is… and he would have never had any students if local thugs beat the sh!t out of him regularly.

Also keep in mind that he’s 6′5″… many martial arts techniques wouldn’t work on him because he’s so large AND he has legitimate skill AND he’s been practicing Aikido for so long… all he needs is to get ahold of one of your wrists and you’re toast.

No. He’s a poser. I worked as a stuntman on Marked for Death and saw an insecure bully who liked to hurt stunt people. As a result of his disrespect and constant bragging, Grand Master Gene LeBell, after being challenged by Seagal, choked him out cold on the set. As for someone calling him out on his credentials, Grand Master Bob Wall did just that in an article in Blackbelt Magazine.

When Seagall confronted him about it at a black tie dinner, Grand Master Chuck Norris had to step in and keep Grand Master Wall from killing him. If he’s a master then I’m a Cocker Spaniel.
