I was at a gig in a small town in West Yorkshire yesterday evening. We sat next to a woman who had a US accent, in chatting she informed us she had come to the UK about 20 years ago. She was now a UK citizen who would no dream of returning to the US other than to occasionally visit family and was always relieved to return home (Yorkshire! – not even the civilised county of Lancashire.)

The UK has its problems, mostly caused by outside influences like Putin in Russia and Trump in the US fucking up the planet’s politics and economies. Some caused by ourselves (past imperial adventures, leaving some pretty nasty conflicts that are still leaving many people wishing to move to somewhere safer- like here; or past governments chronic underspending on essential services like transport, social housing and the NHS – but these are strting to be addressed.

Life is not, however, like that portrayed on TV broadcasts by joke “news” outlets like “Fox News” of “GB News”.
