The US navy has at sea relenishment.
A carrier group has available supply ships and tankers.
While at sea supplies and fuel are transferred. The ships will slow to 10–14 knots while efueling.
The carrier since it is nuclear only needs fuel for its air wing in massive quantities.
Supplies can be loaded either by rope or by helicopter. The carrier does not refuel the smaller ships
In WWII the battleships held so much fuel that they could refuel thier escorts
