Ain’t it amazing how Aussies, Europe, Canada, and NZ students who get a B would only get a D in a US school even with hard work while US students who get a B would get an A in those nations without even having to try? No wonder folks study in the US.

As a teacher (retired) in an Australian school i have to chime in on this one. I have been a teacher for 17 years.

Students that come into Australian schools ftom the United States struggle from the begemning. They are behind their same age peers in every subject. They struggle with basic math.

Their literacy skills are poor. There is little to no knowledge of history and the little they do know is so skewed in favour of the United States it resembles historical accounts only by implication.

I won’t even touch on geography. They have trouble even comprehending that ther is a ‘rest’ of the world outsude the United States and that the United States did not bring civilization to countries like Europe, Afruca and London. Do I need to continue?

I really must touch on their English because it is atrocious. I will use your question as an example. ‘Aint’ is not a word. Somehow you have used a collection of four letters to begin a starement that sings the praises of the fabulous Anerican education system.

You then end the statement with a question mark. Can you see the irony in this? I’m pretty sure such wholesale butchering of the English language would be too much for even the semiliterate Noah Webster.

To continue, American students lack both decorum and manners. Their social skills are sadky lacking to the point of being rude. American students do not want to be educated and will not participate in classes they find ‘boring’. They expect to be entrtained.

The expect all the answers spoon fed to them and whine about how harsh it is when they have to use known facts in an unfamiliar context to solve a problem.

This inability transfer skills and knowledge and apply critical thinking to solve a problem, create a coherent argument (beyond ‘this sucks’ )or critique academically paints picrure of an education system that has a total absence intellectuial rigour. This is reflected in the incredibly low academic acheivement of American students in Australian schools.

I will say to you what iwoukd once say to my students when they were speaking dribble.

‘Stop talking such nonsence’

I’m a U.S. educator, currently teaching high school science and retiring this year after 38 years of service. I’ve watched the decline of our education system, first with puzzlement, now with alarm. This question is a great example of how stupid our population is becoming. It’s also a clue as to how we’ve ended up with the ‘president’ we currently have in the now damaged White House.

Even with reliance on the ever-changing technology of today, our current high school students will face an uphill battle to compete with their contemporaries around the world. They can’t read as well as my first 3rd grade class back in the late 1980’s, and their math skills have not developed beyond finger counting.

I fear for my grandchildren’s future and I’m hoping they will choose to move to a more enlightened and educated country when they are adults (if their parents haven’t already made the move themselves). The current administration, elected by people like the person who posted the question, is putting the final nail in the coffin of our country.
