My brother-in-law went to Naples, Florida, in order to sell their condo. They waited at their restaurant table for half an hour and none of the waitresses would take their order. They finally went to a drive-through to get something to eat.
That was after surviving 2 ICE stops and questionning and after passing the border where they had to hand over their phones and tablet.
Once the sale is sealed, they won’t go back.
I have a South African friend who has visited the US close to once annually over the past 30+ years.
He just returned and said never again.
He said entering the US border at Orlando makes you wonder if you have just entered communist Russia. Glum unfriendly men in uniform.
He said the checks are ludicrous and you actually feel afraid that you might disappear into a gulag, never to be seen again.
Once in everything is cool, as he was staying with old friends.
The way out is again fraught with searches, questions and a generally uneasy feeling.
Also he used to bring a lot of things back every visit. He was advised to travel lightly due to the border hoodlums.
It will not help to just oust Trump.
But the border controls have to lighten up and if this will ever happen ?
One must not forget that the USA has a lot to offer from the outside- like the school bully, who has now fattened up.
