Why arent other nations lending a hand to the US in the Hormuz region?

As an American, this is not a good time to be an American. We have so many great people, and yet the worst man, maybe the literally worst man in the entire nation, is President. Today was humiliating.

Donald Trump requested NATO help to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. Trump was even desperate enough to request aid from China and non-aligned nations like India.

Some expected a few nations to respond more out of self-interest, but the result was a resounding NO.

Why? WHY SHOULD THEY? NATO has Article 5, which states that a military attack on one member is an attack on all. However, no clause forces member nations to aid a nation in a war THEY STARTED. Such an alliance would be a joke. How could a responsible nation join an alliance that could drag them into WW3 if 1 leader in 1 member state just decides to start bombing Russia?

Thus, no US allies were under any obligation to aid the US in a situation the US created. A situation, by the way, which was predicted BY EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS.

→ Also, I really want to stress this single point. THE USA STARTED THE WAR. I am sorry to say this, but it does seem Israel pushed Trump into this. I don’t think a conspiracy or blackmail given Trump’s extremely pro-Israel and extremely anti-Iran stances, but it’s hard to think otherwise. However, it’s a classic cop out to blame Israel. This was a decision made by ELECTED US leadership.

It’s so bad that National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent resigned over this. Of this disaster, he said that Iran posed “no imminent threat” to the US and claimed the administration “started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”

Regardless, the Strait of Hormuz is shut down. Turns out Iran did not need mines because the Strait is within range of Iranian drones, missiles, rockets, and mortars. Insurance companies have “shut” the Strait, and the US can put an aircraft carrier there (which Iran would love), and nothing would change.

  • I want to stress this was always going to happen. In the event of the possible Iranian responses, the only 2 garunteed responses would be missiles/drones fired at US/Israeli bases and shutting the Strait of Hormuz. They had more extreme options, but this seems to be enough.

Let’s see what Trump has done for the allies of the US, his “friends.”

  1. He threatened Greenland and thus Denmark, a founding NATO member, multiple times. He would buy Greenland, then he would FORCE Denmark to sell Greenland, then he would threaten to just invade Greenland (even though it already had US bases).
  2. He threatened to invade Panama, a crucial US ally
  3. He threatened to straight-up annex Canada. He did this in speeches, meetings, press meetings, and via social media with posts showing an entirely “American” North America.
  4. He chastised the UK. Germany, France, and most member nations for being weak. He called them drains on the US economy, on US defense spending, and so on.
    1. Europe has the economy to fund its own military defense. They are some of the wealthiest nations on earth with advanced infrastructure and economic abilities. However, this was happening organically and COULD have been done as a friendly thing- as an “ally helping allies get ahead”- instead of threats and insults
  5. He belittled multiple allies, stating MULTIPLE TIMES that he “may not” come to the aid of NATO nations who had not hit the military spending targets laid out in the treaty.
  6. The Kurds, who were supported by the US during the Trump administration as the “boots on the ground” against ISIS and in Syria, were wholesale abandoned at the first chance Trump got, leaving thousands to die.

The only “allies” Trump has are in El Salvador, Russia, and Israel.

So ya, when Trump asked Asian and European allies, who had NOTHING to do with this war, to intervene, and they said no, it was 100% understandable.

The whole world thought, “You started this mess, and you treat us like dirt, and now we are expected to save you?

Not only is an insane amount of oil the US needs being held up, but so is fertilizer, all DURING SPRING PLANTING SEASON. A full 1/3rd of all nitrogen-based urea and ammonia comes through the Strait. So not only will gas prices (and all prices) go up, but the US will get a “double smack” when it comes to the cost of food. This is a global issue as well. Needless to say, US allies are not thrilled.

→ Trump’s response?

The United States has been informed by most of our NATO ‘Allies’ that they don’t want to get involved with our Military Operation against the Terrorist Regime of Iran, in the Middle East, this, despite the fact that almost every Country strongly agreed with what we are doing, and that Iran cannot, in any way, shape, or form, be allowed to have a Nuclear Weapon,”

“I am not surprised by their action, however, because I always considered NATO, where we spend Hundreds of Billions of Dollars per year protecting these same Countries, to be a one-way street — We will protect them, but they will do nothing for us, in particular, in a time of need,”

He followed that “time of need” statement up with statements about how the US NEVER actually needed help and is just fine.

USA attacked Iran without telling anyone.

Now it’s going to hell in a handbasket, like any idiot could have told you.

And now the USA – whose navy is bigger than the next ten navies on the planet together – is demanding that we use our navies to fix what the USA broke.

After having insulted us repeatedly for the last time we helped you.

Well, fuck you, too, and the horse you rode in on.
