Are the nuclear weapons really still onboard the USS Scorpion?

Yes, of course.

The US Navy has acknowledged that she had two MK 45 ASTOR nuclear-tipped torpedoes on board.

Both are located in the forward torpedo room in the bow section which is still relatively intact.

Since she is 3,000 metres deep, recovering those torpedoes from inside the wreck would be extremely expensive and pretty useless.

The torpedoes are still intact and there is no radioactive contamination whatsoever, the technology is outdated.

To prevent unauthorized access, sensors were placed on the bow section to make sure nobody disturbs it.

The Russians use the same technique.

The sensors monitor activity and radioactivity.
